U-M Zoom, cloud recordings
Issue
- How do I enable audio transcription for my Zoom cloud recordings?
- How do I view and edit an audio transcript to add captions to a cloud recording?
Resolution
Audio transcription for cloud recordings lets you add captions to a meeting or webinar recording after it has concluded. This feature only works with cloud recordings, as local recordings do not include audio transcripts.
Enable audio transcription for cloud recordings
- Go to your U-M Zoom account settings.
- Click the Recording tab.
- Check the Create audio transcript box under the "Advanced cloud recording" section.
- Click Save.
The audio transcript will not be generated if this setting is not enabled when you record your meeting/webinar to the cloud. (You cannot retroactively apply the setting to cloud recordings that have already occurred.)
View and edit the transcript files
After recording your Zoom meeting/webinar to the cloud, you can view and edit the audio transcript from your Zoom settings. Refer to the Zoom Support page for instructions on viewing and editing your transcript.
Depending on the length of the cloud recording, the transcript may take several hours to generate. You’ll receive an email notifying you when it is available.
Additional Information
- Additional options for Zoom captioning and audio transcription are available at Videoconferencing Captioning Tools for Zoom.
- Local recordings do not have audio transcription options available.
- Audio transcription for cloud recordings supports several languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, and more.
- Zoom doesn't allow you to toggle the date/time visibility on a transcript.
- If you have the Smart recording with AI Companion account setting enabled and want to disable audio transcripts for cloud recordings, you must also disable the Smart Recording setting, as the two are linked.
