Add Media to Playlists in Canvas and MiVideo Mediaspaces

Issue

Add media to a Media Gallery, channel, or personal playlist. Media in the playlist is ordered, specifying the sequential order the media appears in the player.

Resolution

Add Media to a Playlist

Teachers, TAs, and Designers can add media to a Media Gallery playlist. Only Managers can add media to a channel playlist.

1. Navigate to the Edit Playlist Details page 

• Canvas: Media Gallery > Channel Actions  > Edit > Playlists tab > pencil icon next to the playlist
  • Note: Any media added directly to a Media Gallery playlist will automatically be published to the Media Gallery if not already..
• MiVideo Mediaspace:
  • for a personal playlist: user drop-down menu > My Playlists > pencil icon under the playlist
    • Note: The Watch Later playlist in MiVideo Mediaspace can be used to collect media to watch later. This playlist cannot be deleted or published.
  • for a channel playlist: user drop-down menu > My Channels > edit pencil icon > Playlists tab > pencil icon next to the playlist
    • Note: Any media added directly to a channel playlist will automatically be added to the channel if not already.

2. In the left column is the Add Items to Your Playlist list. The right column displays the media item(s) currently in your Playlist

• Note: Videos with an IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) cannot be published to a playlist. These videos will not display in the Add Items to Your Playlist list.

3. The currently viewed library on the left can be changed from My Media to other libraries by clicking the drop down menu
4. The Search for Media box provides a search for words in playlist names, tags, or both. Press Enter
5. To add media click the "+" button to the right of the media. The button will turn into a check mark. The media item will appear in the right Playlist column
6. To reorder the playlist, click the double lines next to the media item and drag the media to the desired position in the list. Notice that the order number changes to reflect the new position.
7. Click Save

Add Media to a Personal Playlist directly from My Media (MiVideo Mediaspace only)

Add media to a personal playlist directly from in My Media. Create a new playlist as needed.

1. MiVideo Medispace: user drop-down menu > My Media > check boxes next to the left of one or more media items to add to the playlist

• Note: Videos with an IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) cannot be published to a playlist. You will receive an error if you try to add a video with an IVQ to a playlist.

2. From the Actions drop-down list select Add to playlist
3. Check one or more existing playlists or select Create New Playlist

• When creating a new playlist enter a Title and click Create (the system does not prevent duplicates)
• The new playlist will display checked in the list
• Note: The Watch Later playlist can be used to collect media to watch later. This playlist cannot be deleted or published.

4. Click Add
