Google: Delete a Shared Drive

Environment

U-M Google, shared drives

Issue

Can a shared drive be deleted? How do I delete it?

Resolution

Yes, U-M Google shared drives can be deleted. The deletion process is the same regardless of whether the shared drive was created using the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool.

  1. Go to https://drive.google.com/drive/shared-drives.
  2. Open the shared drive you want to delete.
  3. Verify the shared drive is empty, including the shared drive's Trash. If not, delete all files/folders in the drive and its Trash before continuing.
  4. Click the shared drive's name at the top to open a drop-down menu.
  5. Select Delete shared drive from the drop-down menu.
  6. Confirm you want to delete this drive by clicking Delete shared drive in the pop-up that appears.

Important things to note

  • You must be a Manager of the shared drive.
  • The drive must be empty (i.e., no files or folders). (This includes the shared drive's trash.)
  • If all content was just removed from the drive, and the option to delete it is still grayed out, refresh the page or relaunch your browser.
  • The drive will be removed from the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool within 24 hours.
