Environment
U-M Google shared drives (formerly Team Drives)
Issue
Can a U-M Google shared drive be deleted? How do I delete it?
Resolution
Yes, U-M Google shared drives can be deleted. The deletion process is the same regardless if the shared drive was created using the Shared Drive Manager tool or prior to January 3, 2023.
Delete a shared drive
- Open the shared drive you want to delete
- Click the name of shared drive at the top to open a drop-down menu
- Select Delete shared drive from drop-down menu
- Confirm you want to delete this drive by clicking Delete shared drive in the pop-up that appears
Important things to note
- You must be a Manager of the shared drive
- The drive must be empty (i.e., no files or folders)
- If all content was just removed from the drive, and the option to delete it is still grayed out, refresh the page or relaunch your browser
- The drive will be removed from the Shared Drive Manager tool within 24 hours
