How to order professional human-generated or machine-generated language translation captions for media in Canvas and Mediaspace. 

Media must be uploaded to your My Media in Canvas or Mediaspace to use this service. 

Resolution

Viewing Language Captions in the Kaltura Media Player

Videos with multiple language captions have a separate captions file for each language. Only one captions file can be selected at a time in the player.

Canvas and Mediaspaces with upgraded players

Captions can be changed in the Kaltura media player by clicking the gear icon in the lower right corner of the player and selecting a captions language.

Mediaspaces with legacy players

Captions can be changed in the Kaltura media player by clicking the closed captions icon in the lower right corner of the player and selecting a captions language.

Professional Language Translation Captions/Transcript (from English and to English)

Kaltura contracts with Cielo24 to generate professional language translations. This is a premium fee-based service. It is not free, see the pricing table for turnaround times, cost, and supported languages.

• Professional translations can be ordered for many languages. The source language does not have to be English.
• Price is based on length of recording and turnaround time.

Order Professional Language Translation Captions with a shortcode

Professional language translations can be ordered with a shortcode. Please complete the  MiVideo Captioning, Transcription & Audio Description Request Form to order.

• Media must be uploaded to your My Media in Canvas or Mediaspace to use this service.
• Translation requests produce caption and searchable and interactive transcript files.
• The cost is based on the length of the recording rounded up the next minute (not the number of minutes of audio that need translated). For example, a recording with a length of 10 minutes and 1 second will be charged for 11 minutes.
• The recording length can be edited down as necessary, see the Utilizing Video Editor article.
• The ITS-MiVideo team will need a shortcode and authorized signer approval to place the order.
• The ITS-MiVideo team will email the requester once the order is completed.

Machine Language Translation Captions/Transcript (from English and to English)

• Machine translations can be ordered for many languages. The source language does not have to be English.
• Price is based on length of recording and turnaround time.
• High quality text captions are required for machine translation. 
  • Machine-generated captions can be ordered, however these captions are not always accurate and will need to be edited for accuracy before ordering translations. See the Order Captions and Edit Captions articles.
