U-M Zoom
Issue
- Am I eligible for a U-M Zoom Account?
- Who has access to the U-M Zoom license?
- Can I continue to use Zoom after graduation?
Resolution
Eligible
If you have at least one of the following affiliations, you are eligible for a Zoom account under the U-M license for as long as you hold that affiliation:
- Students (from matriculation to either graduation or end of student status)
- Faculty (including emeritus faculty, lecturers, and intermittent lecturers)
- Staff (including Temporary Staff)
- Sponsored affiliates with regular uniqnames and UMIDs (i.e., Type-1 Sponsored Affiliates, strong identities)
Not Eligible
The following affiliations are not eligible for a Zoom account under the U-M license if you do not have any of the roles from the previous list:
- Alumni
- Retirees
- Sponsored affiliates with regular uniqnames and UMIDs that start with "99" (i.e., Type-2 Sponsored Affiliates, long-term guests)
- Sponsored affiliates with uniqnames starting with "um" and followed by numbers (i.e. Type 3 Sponsored Affiliates, weak identities, short-term guests)
- Friend accounts
Additionally, MCommunity groups and shared accounts are not eligible to access Zoom under the U-M license. Sharing a Zoom account with multiple people is a violation of Zoom's terms of service, as well as a violation of U-M's agreement with Zoom.
Free Zoom (not U-M Zoom)
Anyone may sign up for a free basic Zoom account with a non-UMICH email address. Hosts of U-M Zoom meetings may choose to enable non-UM participants to join as guests.
