Dropbox: Transfer Files Using Dropbox Transfer

Environment

U-M Dropbox, Dropbox Transfer

Issue

Can I use Dropbox Transfer to transfer copies of my files and folders in U-M Dropbox to someone else? If so, how do I do it?

Resolution

U-M Dropbox accounts can use Dropbox Transfer to transfer copies of files and folders to someone else.

To get started:

  1. Log in to U-M Dropbox.
  2. Go to the Dropbox Transfer page.
  3. You can add files to your transfer in the following ways:
    • Drag and drop files from your computer.
    • Click Upload files.
    • Click the drop-down and select Upload folders.
    • Click the drop-down and select Add from Dropbox.
      • This will open your files and folders in U-M Dropbox that are available for transfer.
      • Select the files and/or folders you want to transfer and click Choose in the lower right corner.
    • Note: There is a 100GB limit per transfer.
  4. You can choose to adjust the transfer setting. Click the gear icon beside the "Expires on [date]" in the lower left corner.
    • Set an expiration date for up to 12 months past today's date. If you do not set an expiration, the default expiration for your transfer is 30 days. You can also change the expiration date after creating the transfer.
    • Add a password by entering it in the Add password field.
    • Turn download notifications on or off by toggling the switch beside Download notifications.
    • If you adjust any settings, click Done to save them.
  5. Click Create transfer.
  6. Click Send email or Copy link.
    • Your transfer can be sent to:
      • Accounts within U-M Dropbox (@umich.edu)
      • Personal Dropbox accounts (non-@umich.edu)
      • Individuals without Dropbox accounts

Once you have sent your transfer link to your chosen individual, you can manage all your transfers on the Transfers page in U-M Dropbox.
