Issue

How to sign into a UM Google Shared Account.

Resolution

You can not sign into a Google Shared Account while you are also signed into your personal U-M Google account. If you try to sign into a Google Shared Account while also signed into your personal U-M Google account, it will loop you back to your personal U-M Google account.
  1. Open a private/incognito window or a different browser *SEE BELOW NOTE UNDER ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT CORE IMAGE DEVICES*
  2. Navigate to email.umich.edu
  3. When prompted to log in (at the weblogin screen), use the name of the Google Shared Account (ex: its-groupaccount) and the password for that account
    1. Special Note: Google Shared Accounts do not authenticate with Duo
      1. If you are encountering Duo, then you are authenticating using a uniqname instead of the Google Shared Account
    2. If you are an owner of the MCommunity group associated with the Google Shared Account and do not know the password, visit Google at U-M Request Form and select the following option: Request a password reset for an existing Google Shared Account.
      • NOTE: Non-owners cannot request password resets for shared accounts

Note: Setting up delegation can make it easier to access some features. Please see Google: Add or Remove Delegation on Email for more information on how to set this up.

Additional Information

*REGARDING CORE IMAGE DEVICES* Core image devices no longer have incognito mode available to users. In order for users to sign into shared google accounts on core image devices they must either:

A.) Sign in via a different browser they don't use their personal UM account on

B.) Sign into chrome with multiple accounts
