Environment
- Graduating students
- Students leaving U-M, whether or not they graduate
- End of Services, end of U-M computing services
Issue
- What happens with a student's computing services when they graduate or leave U-M?
- Requesting that computing services be continued after you graduate or leave
- Questions about end-of-service messages at graduation
Resolution
General information
- As a U-M alum, you will now have access to use alumni computing services, while some U-M computing services will end soon if you are not returning to U-M next term as a student, Ph.D. candidate, researcher, faculty/staff member, etc. Please refer to this website for important details and recommended steps: https://its.umich.edu/accounts-access/leaving/graduating-students
- A PDF cheat sheet for graduating students can be found on the right sidebar of the Leaving U-M graduating students page.
- ITS does not have advanced information about the date on which your affiliation will change - contact your school/college's registrar for more information.
- Your U-M Google account's storage limit will change from 250GB to 15GB on a date dependent on your graduation term. Refer to the Leaving U-M graduating students page, under Cloud Storage, for the specific dates to pay attention to, as they differ from when your affiliation changes.
If continuing or returning as a student
If you are continuing or will return as a student in a future semester:
- As long as U-M records indicate you are a current student, services will continue. If there is a gap in your status as a current student, we highly recommend you take action to protect your data. Please refer to this website for important details and recommended steps: https://its.umich.edu/accounts-access/leaving/graduating-students
- For any questions about your student status, please consult with the Office of the Registrar or the Registrar's office for your school/college.
If taking a faculty or staff position
If you have been hired or expect to be hired as a faculty or staff member:
If reporting an additional relationship with U-M
If you have a current or future relationship with U-M, other than student or employee, even if informal:
- Students who become alumni keep some, but not all, of the standard computing services they had access to as students. Please refer to this website for important details and recommended steps: https://its.umich.edu/accounts-access/leaving/graduating-students
- When campus units (departments) have a relationship with individuals who are not students or employees and need them to have access to U-M computing resources, the unit can sponsor the individuals. The sponsorship process documents the relationship and allows them access to some services. This can be useful for incoming faculty/staff, contractors, academic affiliates, and those with another university affiliation recognized by the unit. You may want to inquire with your department about whether they would be willing to sponsor your account. Additional information about sponsored accounts is at https://its.umich.edu/accounts-access/getting-access/uniqnames-accounts/mcommunity-sponsorship
