Zoom Breakout Room Capacity (Maximum Number of Rooms, Maximum Participants in Rooms, etc)

Environment

U-M Zoom

Issue

  • What is the maximum number of breakout rooms I can create in a Zoom Meeting?
  • What is the maximum number of participants I can pre-assign to breakout rooms?
  • What is the maximum number of participants who can be in breakout rooms at once in a live Meeting?
  • What is the maximum number of participants who can be in a single breakout room at once?

Resolution

This applies to Zoom Meetings hosted by members of U-M Zoom on or after May 18, 2021 (regardless of when the meeting was created):

  • The maximum number of breakout rooms you can create is 100
  • The maximum number of participants who can be pre-assigned, the maximum number of participants who can be in breakout rooms at once, and the maximum number of participants who can be in a single breakout room at once are all equivalent to the meeting capacity of the host of the meeting (the person under whose account the meeting was created)
    • For most members of U-M Zoom, this will be 300
    • For members of U-M Zoom using Large Meeting licenses, this will be either 500 or 1000, whichever capacity is set by your Large Meeting license

Additional Information

  • You do not need to recreate any meetings in order for this feature to be available for you--this automatically applies to all Zoom Meetings hosted by members of U-M Zoom on or after May 18, 2021, regardless of when the meetings were created.
