Okta: Add/Update Account Recovery Email and Phone

Issue

How do I add or update a secondary email address or phone number for account recovery in Okta?

Resolution

Begin by signing into okta.umich.edu and complete multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Add/update secondary email address

1. Click Personal information.
2. Click Edit details.
3. Enter your UMICH password and click Verify.
4. Enter or update your secondary email address with a non-UMICH address and click Save.

Add phone number

1. Click Manage security methods.
2. Click Set up another in the Phone section.
3. Enter your UMICH password and click Verify.
4. Click Phone - Set up another.
5. Select SMS or Voice call. 
6. Select the Country/region. (International phone numbers are accepted.)
7. Enter your Phone number.
8. Click Receive a code.
9. Enter the code you received in the Enter code field and click Verify.

You may add multiple phone numbers.

Remove phone number

To remove a phone number, click Manage security methods, then click Remove next to the number you want to remove, and follow the on-screen instructions.
