U-M Net VPN / Cisco Secure Client, University of Michigan
Eligible users with a valid uniqname and UMICH password at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint. Sponsored affiliates are able to use the VPN if they are issued a University of Michigan ID (UMID) number with their sponsorship credentials.
Alumni, Retirees, and Friend accounts will not allow use of the VPN.
Issue
Need a specific network address for access to U-M resources.
Resolution
Install the U-M Net VPN
- Go to Getting Started with U-M Net VPN.
- Click on your Operating System from the list.
- Cisco Secure Client does not support Linux ARM.
- OpenConnect (third party client) may be used as an alternative (contact the ITS Service Center if you need assistance).
- Download the software for your device.
- Select the appropriate option based on your University role.
- Note that you will need to be on the device where you plan to install the software.
- Complete any recommended installation steps for the device you specify.
Connect Using the U-M Net VPN
Important! You must have a network connection to connect via the VPN and you must turn on the VPN before connecting to the services that need it.
- Launch the Cisco Secure Client client.
- Select UMVPN - All Traffic or UMVPN - Only U-M Traffic from the profile drop-down list.
- Click Connect.
- Authenticate using your uniqname and UMICH password when prompted.
- Authenticate via Duo two-factor authentication.
Additional Information
