MiWorkspace: Off-Campus Remote Desktop Connection for Windows Machines

Environment

MiWorkspace Windows computers or Windows Platform as a Service (PaaS)

Issue

Sharing information about how you can connect to MiWorkspace Windows and Windows PaaS computers from off-campus

Resolution

In order to connect to a MiWorkspace Windows computer from off-campus, you must use the campus Virtual Private Network (VPN) or the Cisco AnyConnect Management Tunnel on the device you are connecting from.

  • MiWorkspace Windows or Windows PaaS device: If you are connecting from a MiWorkspace Windows or Windows PaaS device, your computer will automatically use the Cisco AnyConnect Management Tunnel to connect
    • The Cisco AnyConnect Management Tunnel cannot be configured for personally-owned or personally-managed devices
  • All other devices: Cisco VPN Clients are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, Linux, and Android operating systems

Additional Information

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is used by some MiWorkspace and PaaS customers to log on to the console of their MiWorkspace Windows or Windows PaaS computer from another device. Off-campus RDP connections to MiWorkspace Windows and Windows PaaS computers are blocked unless the connections utilize a virtual private network (VPN).
