Host of Zoom Meeting not Recognized as Host

Environment

Zoom (U-M Zoom, Zoom for Health at U-M)

Issue

A Zoom Meeting host does not have host controls or permissions in a Zoom Meeting of which they are the host.

This may manifest in a few ways. Examples include:

  • Host cannot record the meeting
  • Host cannot share their screen
  • Host sees a message, "Please wait for the host to start this meeting" when attempting to join

Resolution

The user is not signed in to Zoom; they must sign in or enter their host key to be recognized as the host.

Before the Meeting

Avoid this problem by logging in to Zoom in the Zoom application prior to your meeting. When logging in, ensure "Keep me signed in" is checked. Refer to https://teamdynamix.umich.edu/TDClient/30/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=1700.

During the Meeting

  1. Click Participants at the bottom of the Zoom window

  2. Click Claim Host at the bottom right of the Participants panel

  3. Use one of these options to claim the host role:
