Google: Change Default Videoconferencing in Calendar From Meet to Another Service

Environment

U-M Google, Calendar, videoconferencing options

Issue

Google Meet is the default videoconferencing service in Google Calendar, but I want it to default to a different service (e.g., Zoom). Can I do this, and if so, how?

Resolution

Alternate videoconferencing services outside of Google, such as Zoom, are available in Google Calendar after installing a third-party add-on for the service. Because the other services are third-party connections, Meet will always be the default videoconferencing service when creating meetings in Calendar.

You must manually select your preferred videoconferencing service for each meeting you create in Google Calendar:

  1. Open Google Calendar and create a new event or edit an existing one.
  2. Click Add video conferencing and select your preferred videoconferencing service from the list.
    • If Google Meet is the only service available, you must install another service's add-on before continuing. The following are the only videoconferencing services approved for use with U-M Google:
