Issue
How to publish Zoom recordings saved to your Zoom cloud storage as a MiVideo video to a Canvas course using the Zoom Recordings Manager.
Resolution
- Optional (only do once): check the "Optimize the recording for 3rd party video editor" setting to improve the quality of your Zoom recording. This setting is found by logging into your account at https://umich.zoom.us/, selecting "Settings" from the left navigation, selecting the "Recording" tab, then scrolling down to the "Advanced cloud recording settings" section.
- After receiving an email notification that your Zoom recording is available, navigate to the Zoom Recording Manager at https://zoominfo.euc.it.umich.edu/recordings/service/kaltura
- Scroll down to the Completed Cloud Recordings section and check the box next to the recording(s) you want to copy to MiVideo.
UM Zoom is HIPAA compliant as well as permitting other kinds of data types that MiVideo may not permit. Therefore, it is up to you to determine on a per-recording basis which recordings are appropriate for storage in MiVideo. See the
Sensitive Data Guide webpage for more information about what data types are permitted.
- Click Copy Selected Recordings to MiVideo Now.
- You will see a message showing the status. It may take a while for the recording to process.
- Once the recording is processed, machine captions are automatically ordered. Navigate to Canvas and select Account then My Media.
- Click the pencil icon next to the recording to make edits.
- Make any necessary edits such as changing the name and adding a description. Don't forget to Save. To edit the captions select the Captions tab and click Edit Captions to open the Captions Editor. To make any edits to the recording itself including trimming, chopping, and splicing, click Launch Editor to open the Video Editor. It is recommended to save a copy of the recording after making edits in the Video Editor.
- Navigate to the course in Canvas where the recording will be published.
- Click Media Gallery from the left course navigation.
- Make sure the Media tab is selected at the top of the Media Gallery. Then click Add Media.
- Check the box next to the recording to publish. Then click Publish at the top right.
- Your recording is now available for students to view in the course Media Gallery.
