Dropbox: "Access denied - Please try again or contact IT" Error

Issue

Troubleshooting "Access denied - Please try again or contact IT" error while attempting to log into U-M Dropbox.

Resolution

  1. Confirm eligibility, see Eligibility for a U-M Dropbox Account (Dropbox Access).
  2. If eligible, log into Dropbox (dropbox.umich.edu) using a private or incognito browser
    1. Verify you are using your U-M uniqname and UMICH (Level-1) password and that a password manager is not auto-filling different credentials.
    2. It can take 24-48 hours after regaining an eligible affiliation for your access to U-M Dropbox to be restored.
  3. If you can log into Dropbox in a private or incognito window, clear cookies and cache for all time following Clear Cache and Cookies (Temporary Internet Files) in Multiple Browsers which should then allow you to authenticate in your normal browsing window.
