How do I download and install the Virtual Sites desktop client?

Resolution

Install the Windows Desktop client

The Virtual Sites Windows Remote Desktop client can be installed on devices running Windows 11 or Windows 10.

  1. Download the client based on your Windows version:
  1. Locate and open the downloaded file, and then click Run
    1. The Remote Desktop Setup Wizard will open
  2. Click Next on the Setup Wizard until you reach the Installation Scope window
  3. Choose Install just for you, and then click Install
  4. Click Finish after installation is complete
  5. Click Subscribe
    1. A Microsoft login window displays
    2. Log in with your uniqname and UMICH password, or select the account if you’re already logged in
    3. Complete Duo Two-Factor authentication if prompted

The Virtual Sites (Remote Desktop) client automatically opens and displays all available Virtual Sites applications. Close the window to end your Virtual Sites session.

To open the Virtual Sites desktop client, click the Windows Start menu and browse or search for the Remote Desktop application. Note that this is different from the Remote Desktop Connection option that may also display in the Windows Start menu.

Install the macOS Desktop client

If it’s not already installed on your device, download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop client from the Mac App Store, and then open it. If the Microsoft Remote Desktop client is already installed on your device, open it from the Applications folder.

  1. Once the Microsoft Remote Desktop client is open, verify the Workspaces tab is selected
  2. Click Add Workspace
  3. Copy and paste the following in the Feed URL field: https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/api/arm/feeddiscovery
  4. Click Add
  5. Log in with your uniqname and UMICH password
    1. Complete Duo Two-Factor authentication if prompted

The Virtual Sites (Microsoft Remote Desktop) client displays all available Virtual Sites applications.
