How do I download and install the Virtual Sites desktop client?

Resolution

Install the Windows Desktop client

The Virtual Sites Windows App client can be installed on devices running Windows 11.  The quickest way to install it is from the Microsoft Store, but if that is unsuitable:

  1. Download the client based on your Windows version:
  1. Locate and open the downloaded file, and then click Run
    1. The Windows App Installer will open
  2. Check the "Launch when ready" checkbox, then click Install on the Installer
  3. Click through the welcome tutorial.

The Virtual Sites Windows App client automatically opens and displays all available Virtual Sites applications. Close the window to end your Virtual Sites session.

To open the Virtual Sites desktop client, click the Windows Start menu and browse or search for the Remote Desktop application. Note that this is different from the Remote Desktop Connection option that may also display in the Windows Start menu.

Install the macOS Desktop client

If it’s not already installed on your device, download and install the Windows App client from the Mac App Store, and then open it. If the Windows App client is already installed on your device, open it from the Applications folder.

  1. Once the Windows App client is open, verify the Workspaces tab is selected
  2. Click Add Workspace
  3. Copy and paste the following in the Feed URL field: https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/api/arm/feeddiscovery
  4. Click Add
  5. Log in with your uniqname and UMICH password
    1. Complete Duo Two-Factor authentication if prompted

The Virtual Sites (Windows App) client displays all available Virtual Sites applications.
