Invalid Submission File Type Canvas Google Drive LTI Error

Issue

Student receives the error message "Invalid Submission File Type"  while attempting to link to a Google Drive file in an assignment submission. The assignment has a submission type Website URL and/or File Uploads. 

Resolution

Restricting specific file types causes an error for students attaching a Google Drive file. A Teacher or TA in the course will need to make a change to the assignment to correct this issue.

1. Edit the assignment and, if unchecked, check the box next to submission type File Uploads
2. If the Restrict Upload File Types box is checked, uncheck the box and save the assignment (unchecking the File Uploads box to remove this type of submission does not automatically uncheck Restrict Upload File Types).
