Canvas: "Invalid Submission File" - Canvas Google Drive LTI Error

Issue

Student receives the error message "Invalid Submission File Type"  while attempting to link to a Google Drive file in an assignment submission. The assignment has a submission type Website URL and/or File Uploads. 

Resolution

This error is caused when specific file types are restricted, preventing students from attaching a Google Drive file. A Teacher or TA needs to modify the assignment settings to resolve this issue.

Steps to Resolve:

1. Edit the assignment in Canvas.
2. Ensure the "File Uploads" option is checked under the submission types. If it is unchecked, check this box.
3. If the "Restrict Upload File Types" box is checked, uncheck this box and save the assignment. (Note: Unchecking the "File Uploads" box to remove this submission type does not automatically uncheck "Restrict Upload File Types".)
