The Video Editor provides media trim, chop, splice, and copy capabilities within Canvas and MiVideo Mediaspace. In addition, Interactive Video Quizzes (IVQs) and hotspots can be embedded into videos. See related Video Editing Tools articles for more information about this editor.

Issue

Hotspots are objects in a video that allow viewers to interact with the video. You can customize hotspots to determine what happens when a viewer clicks on one. Hotspots can direct viewers to other videos, web documents, websites, or even a different point on the video.

Create a Hotspot

Add a new hotspot to a video.

  1. Navigate to the Video Editor

  • From the Edit Media page > Launch Editor.
  • From the Media page > Actions > Launch Editor.
  1. Click the hotspot arrow icon
  2. Use the timeline marker to select the point in the video to add the hotspot

Tip: Zoom in and out of the timeline using the Zoom slider.

  1. Click on the screen where the hotspot should appear or click the Add Hotspot button
  2. Drag and drop the hotspot around the screen to readjust the location of the hotspot as needed. Grab the handles on a hotspot to resize the hotspot area
  3. Add Text that viewers will see indicating an active hotspot
  4. Indicate the type of hotspot by selecting a Go to option
    1. To add a URL select the URL toggle (default). Enter the Link to address
    2. To add a link to a different location in the video select the Time in the video toggle. Enter the Time point of the video in minutes and seconds
  5. Click Advanced Settings (optional)
    1. Set the Text Color & Style and Text Size
    2. Set the Roundness of the edges of the hotspot area
    3. Set the Background Color, Position to display the hotspot precisely onto the video (in x and y coordinates from the upper left), and Size of the hotspot area
    4. Set the Start Time and End Time for the hotspot to appear on the video
  6. Click Done
  7. Repeat for each hotspot
  8. All hotspots on the video are listed on the left pane hotspots list. Hotspots are also shown above the timeline and indicate the duration of the hotspot in the video
  9. Click Save

Edit a Hotspot

Edit an existing hotspot in a video.

  1. Navigate to the Video Editor

  • From the Edit Media page > Launch Editor.
  • From the Media page > Actions > Launch Editor.
  1. Click the hotspot arrow icon
  2. Click the three dots next to the hotspot in the left pane hotspots list
  3. Select Edit
  4. The same options are available as when creating the hotspot. See the Create a Hotspot section for details
  5. Click Done when editing is complete

Duplicate a Hotspot

Duplicate an existing hotspot in a video.

  1. Navigate to the Video Editor

  • From the Edit Media page > Launch Editor.
  • From the Media page > Actions > Launch Editor.
  1. Click the hotspot arrow icon
  2. Click the three dots next to the hotspot in the left pane hotspots list
  3. Select Duplicate
  4. Make any necessary changes to the hotspot settings
  5. Click Done when finished

Delete a Hotspot

Remove a hotspot from a video.

  1. Navigate to the Video Editor

  • From the Edit Media page > Launch Editor.
  • From the Media page > Actions > Launch Editor.
  1. Click the hotspot arrow icon
  2. Click the three dots next to the hotspot in the left pane hotspots list
  3. Select Edit
  4. Click the Delete link
