Environment
Zoom / Mac Big Sur, wired connection
Issue
I have a black screen when trying to share content in a Zoom meeting or webinar.
Resolution
On macOS Big Sur, packets over a certain size may not be transmitted properly over the UDP protocol. The fix for this issue is coming in the next MacOS update by Apple.
If possible, use a wireless connection to connect. If you must use a wired connection for your device, you can change your Zoom screen share settings to use a TCP connection:
- Sign in to the Zoom desktop client
- Click your profile picture, then click Settings
- Click the Share Screen tab
- Click Advanced
- Check Use TCP connection for screen sharing
Additional Information
Other Issues
- We have also seen where the computer is being over-taxed and cannot keep up so Zoom will not work correctly
- Security programs on the computer can block screen shares
