Zoom: Black Screen During Screen Share on MacOS Big Sur

Body

Environment

Zoom / Mac Big Sur, wired connection

Issue

I have a black screen when trying to share content in a Zoom meeting or webinar.

Resolution

On macOS Big Sur, packets over a certain size may not be transmitted properly over the UDP protocol. The fix for this issue is coming in the next MacOS update by Apple.

If possible, use a wireless connection to connect. If you must use a wired connection for your device, you can change your Zoom screen share settings to use a TCP connection:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings
  3. Click the Share Screen tab
  4. Click Advanced
  5. Check Use TCP connection for screen sharing

Additional Information

Other Issues

  • We have also seen where the computer is being over-taxed and cannot keep up so Zoom will not work correctly
  • Security programs on the computer can block screen shares
