Issue
- What's the different between the Zoom Chrome extension (formerly known as the "Zoom Scheduler" extension) and the Zoom Scheduler feature?
- Can I use the Zoom Chrome Extension?
- Can I use the Zoom Scheduler feature?
Resolution
Before June 2023, Zoom had two services named "Zoom Scheduler": a browser extension and a built-in feature of the Zoom product. Zoom changed the name of the browser extension to simply "Zoom Chrome Extension" to help with differentiating the two. You can find details on both below.
Zoom Chrome Browser Extension
ITS recommends using the Zoom for Google Workspace add-on instead of the Zoom Chrome Extension. Learn more about the add-on and how to install it, and about transitioning from the extension to the add-on.
We have seen issues caused by the Zoom Chrome Extension, such as:
- Unexpected alternate hosts being added
- The scheduled time of the meeting changing
The extension is not as feature-rich or as fully supported as the add-on. As such, ITS will provide support for the add-on but not for the extension. Some examples of features unavailable in the extension but available in the add-on include the ability to schedule meetings on behalf of other users and edit meetings in Google Calendar after creation.
Zoom Scheduler Feature
The Zoom Scheduler feature is unavailable for our domain, and there are no plans to enable it at this time. If you are looking to create appointment slots or schedule Zoom meetings in a calendar interface, we recommend using the Zoom for Google Workspace add-on or creating a Google Calendar booking page (and adding Zoom links to the scheduled events) instead.
