Environment

Issue

How do I migrate my Zoom personal account that uses a umich.edu email address to the U-M Zoom account?

Resolution

Note: in order to join the U-M account, you must be eligible for U-M Zoom. Ineligible to join the U-M Zoom license? Change your account email.
  1. Navigate to https://zoom.umich.edu/meeting
    • If prompted for your U-M Weblogin, enter your uniqname and UMICH (Level-1) password
  2. A message will appear acknowledging that you are attempting to sign in to a Zoom account that is different from your current account. Click Switch to the New Account
    • NOTE: If you instead see "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO," follow the steps below in Additional Information>Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO.
  3. A new message will appear with information you should be aware of before you switch. Click I Acknowledge and Switch
  4. You will receive a confirmation request in your UMICH email account from Zoom. Click Switch to the new account in the confirmation email
  5. Click I Acknowledge and Switch
  6. If you had tried to set up a paid Zoom account, you may be prompted regarding a refund. If so, choose Send Refund to Self and Accept
  7. You will see a message that Your Zoom Account Switch was successful. Click Sign In Now

Your account is now associated with U-M Zoom. See Zoom Videoconferencing for more information and training.

Additional Information

Changes if you join the U-M account

  • What will NOT change:
    • Your upcoming and previous meetings, your personal meeting ID and link, and cloud recordings will not be impacted and will migrate with your account
    • People will still be able to join future-scheduled meetings using the URL you have already provided--no need to resend
  • What WILL change:
    • Your account settings will change to the default U-M Zoom account settings. You can adjust most settings to your preferences after you consolidate
    • You will lose all contacts and no longer be able to use Zoom Chat (instant messaging). U-M does not have Zoom Chat. This does not impact in-meeting or in-webinar chat
    • If you have a Webinar, Large Meeting, and/or Zoom Room license, these will not move. See Features below for details on availability or Webinar licenses in the U-M account. Large Meetings are available on an extremely limited basis for large courses. Zoom Rooms are not available in the U-M account.
  • See Additional University of Michigan Features and Benefits for more information about new features that will be available to you in U-M Zoom if you choose to consolidate
