Canvas: YouTube Videos May Play Ads Beginning 9/22/2025

Environment

Canvas

Issue

YouTube videos embedded directly into Canvas (not through MiVideo) may start playing ads beginning September 22, 2025.

Resolution

For ad-free viewing, use MiVideo to embed YouTube passthrough videos into your course.

If you prefer to continue using YouTube direct embeds (not through MiVideo), consider adding a disclaimer to your course:

Some videos may display advertisements. These ads are not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Michigan.
