Update Single-Channel Guest's Name in Slack

Issue

How do I change the name displayed in U-M Slack for my single-channel guest account?

Resolution

Single-channel guests cannot modify their profile information in U-M Slack. This information will need to be changed by a Workspace Admin per the instructions below:

  1. Open the Workspace Settings & Administration page for the Slack Workspace in question.
  2. Select "Manage members" from the menu on the left side of the page.
  3. Click the ellipsis icon (...) directly to the right of the single-channel guest's full name.
  4. Select "Edit profile" from the menu.
  5. Update the "Full name" field as needed.
  6. Click the "Save" button in the bottom-right corner.
Note: The "Display Name" field is not used and cannot be modified. The "Full name" is what's displayed in U-M Slack for a single-channel guest.
