Issue

How instructors can create a collaboration in the course.

Resolution

  1. Start a new collaboration.
    1. If External Collaborations Tools is disabled.
      1. Click Start a New Collaboration.
      2. If you are not already logged into Google you will be prompted to Sign In. Login with your Umich credentials.
      3. If you are already logged in, click the Collaboration using dropdown and select Google Assignments (LTI 1.3).
    2.  If External Collaborations Tools is enabled. 
      1. Click +Collaboration > Google Assignments (LTI 1.3).
      2. If you are not already logged into Google you will be prompted to Sign In. Login with your Umich credentials.  
    3. Note: collaborations can also be created by both teachers and students from within Groups > Collaborations.
  2. Give the collaboration a title and select a file type, the description is optional.
  3. Select the students who will be collaborating together.
  4. Click Create.
  5. When asked to confirm the file be created, click Create.

Notes:

  • Students can view and edit a file at the same time.
  • Course teachers can view the file at anytime.
  • Google Assignments LTI 1.3 supports collaboration on Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, Sites and Jams. 
  • The file is saved in the Google Drive of the Collaboration creator.
  • The file has "restricted" access and students are added as editors to the file the first time they access the collaboration. The file appears in students"Shared with me" list in Google Drive.
