How do I enter my emergency address in Zoom Phone?

Why do I have to enter my emergency address in Zoom Phone?

Resolution

Faculty and staff who have not entered a personal emergency address in Zoom Phone, or the address entered is invalid, receive a monthly reminder email from the Telephone Upgrade Project team. See below for common questions/concerns:

  • How do I enter my emergency address correctly?
    1. Enable location services on your device.
    2. Enter your personal emergency address for 911 emergency services
  • I work from campus. Do I still need to enter my personal home address?
    • Zoom Phone defines “personal emergency address” as the physical location in which you will be primarily working, whether on campus or remote. Your personal address is your personally verified “current location.” Regardless of your work location, you need to enter your personal emergency address and after you enter your personally verified address into the U-M Zoom web portal, you must choose “personal address” as the default, even if your location is on campus. DO NOT choose the company address option.
  • Do I have to enter both a personal emergency address and enable location services?
    • Yes. It is a two-step process, though the reminder email is triggered based on the status of the emergency address alone.
  • I entered my address. Why isn't it working?
    • You may have an invalid address.
    • Note: If you are not able to correct it by re-entering the personal emergency address using procedure number 1 linked above, please email the Telephone Upgrade Project Team @ zoomphonehelp@umich.edu.
  • The default emergency address lists my office location. I entered the same address as my personal emergency address but I'm still receiving the reminder emails?
  • I noticed a red notification icon (shield) in my Zoom desktop app? I work at different off-campus locations.
    • When Zoom Phone does not recognize your location, a red shield will appear by your profile photo in your Zoom application. Make sure you Enable location services on your device. Moreover, if you routinely work at different off-campus locations, you should keep your personal emergency addresses/current location up-to-date. A catalog of your common locations will be logged in your profile and Zoom Phone will recognize them in the future.
  • I will enter the address and turn on permissions and then turn it back off, just to stop getting the emails.
    • This does not work and is counterproductive in maintaining accurate address information in case of an emergency.
  • Why do I need to set my personal emergency address?
  • How is my information being shared? I want to keep my address private.
    • Location Permission does not allow any other tracking except your location data in the event of a 911 call. This is regulated by federal law and mandated by our contract with Zoom. Your emergency address is shared with your Zoom Phone administrator in ITS. ITS will NOT use that information in any way.
  • I’m a deskset user, Do I need to enter my emergency address as well?
    • Although the physical location of your deskset is set by technicians when they install your phone, you have access to U-M Zoom Phone as a softphone on your university device. Even if you decide not to use the softphone on your university device, you must enter a personal emergency address/current address in the Emergency Address section in your U-M Zoom web portal under Phone Settings. Until you enter this address, you will continue receiving emergency location reminder emails.
