MiVideo: Add YouTube Media to My Media

This document will instruct users on how to add YouTube media to MiVideo.

My Media is the location for managing your video, audio, and image files in Canvas and MiVideo Mediaspace. See related My Media articles for more information about using your media library.

Adding Youtube Media to My Media

Resolution

Notes:

  • YouTube videos are passed through to your My Media library but continue to reside on YouTube
  • Be aware if you are not the YouTube video owner, the owner may edit or delete the video and you will not be notified
    • If the video is deleted, MiVideo will display an error message in the player because it will no longer be able to access the video on YouTube
    • If the video is edited, MiVideo captions for the video may become inaccurate

Canvas

  1. Account > My Media > Add New > YouTube
  2. Paste the YouTube URL or Content ID
    • Tip: To find the YouTube URL, navigate to the video, click the Share icon under the video player. Copy the URL.
  3. Click Preview
  4. Enter the Name, Description, add Tags, and enter any custom metadata as needed
  5. Select a Publishing Status. If the video is added to your Media Gallery, it is automatically Published. See the Publish Media article for more information
  6. Click Save

Mediaspace

  1. Add New > YouTube
    • Note: If you are logged in and cannot find the Add New list you may not have the necessary upload rights, or your site is using a special layout. Contact your site administrator for help.
  2. Paste the YouTube URL or Content ID
    • Tip: To find the YouTube URL, navigate to the video, click the Share icon under the video player. Copy the URL.
  3. Click Preview
  4. Enter the Name, Description, add Tags, and enter any custom metadata as needed
  5. Select a Publishing Status. If the video is added to your channel, it is automatically Published. See the Publish Media article for more information
  6. Click Save
