Microsoft Teams: Fail to Create Meeting with Teams Add-on for Google Calendar

Environment

Google Calendar, Microsoft Teams add-on

Issue

When I try to schedule a Microsoft Teams meeting using the Google Calendar add-on, I receive an error that the meeting creation has failed. When I click "try again," I receive the same error.

Resolution

The Microsoft Teams add-on in Google Calendar likely requires an update, or the authorization you provided to the add-on has lapsed and needs to be renewed. The most efficient path is to uninstall and reinstall the add-on. Below are the steps to do so.

  1. Visit Google Calendar and make sure you are signed in to your U-M account.
  2. There should be a menu of icons on the right side of your screen. If you do not find this, click the arrow icon in the bottom right to "show side panel."
  3. Click the plus sign (+) in the side panel, which should be at the bottom of the list of icons
  4. This will open a window of add-ons. If you do not find the "Microsoft Teams Meeting" add-on, use the search bar to search for it. (If you already have it installed, it will say installed.)
  5. Click the app thumbnail, then click Uninstall, and finally click Uninstall App.
  6. Click Install and then click Continue. This will open a pop-up to provide permissions for the add-on to work with your Google Calendar. Proceed with providing permissions and click Done when finished.
  7. Refresh your browser page.
  8. Click the Microsoft Teams icon in the left side panel. A window will open to the right of those icons.
  9. Follow the steps provided if you're prompted to log in to your Microsoft 365 account. Otherwise, ensure that the correct name and email are displayed at the top of the window.
  10. Create a new Google Calendar event and select Microsoft Teams from the "Add Video Conferencing" drop-down menu. You should no longer receive an error.

If you continue to receive an error and are unable to create a Microsoft Teams meeting in Google Calendar, reach out to the ITS Service Center for assistance.
