Google: Not Receiving Chat Notifications

Issue

I am not receiving Chat notifications and would like to start receiving them. 

Resolution

Refer to the Google Help Center article for detailed troubleshooting steps when you are not receiving Google Chat notifications. 

Check Chat notification settings

From chat.google.com:

1. Open Google Chat.
2. Click the gear icon in the top right.

From Chat in Gmail:

1. Click the gear icon in the top right.
2. Click See all settings.
3. Click the Chat and Meet tab.
4. Click Manage chat settings beside "Chat settings."

After navigating to the relevant settings menu, following these steps:

1. Ensure Allow chat notifications is toggled on under "Desktop notifications."
   • Ensure Reaction notifications is toggled on if you'd like to receive notifications for reactions to your messages.
2. Ensure Email notifications is toggled on if you'd like to receive emails for unread direct messages or @mentions.
   • Email reminders apply to messages that you haven't read after 12 hours.

For specific direct messages (DMs) or spaces:

1. Hover over the DM or space and click the three-dot icon.
2. Select Notifications from the menu that appears.
3. Ensure notifications are set to All.
4. Click Save.

Ensure you didn't temporarily set your status to "Do not disturb" (which snoozes your notifications).

Check computer notification settings

Notifications do not show in the navigation bar.
