How to create a quiz in Canvas so students can submit a MiVideo video recording.

Resolution

How to Create the Quiz

To submit a quiz using the MiVideo integration in Canvas, students will need the Rich Text Editor for a quiz question.

  1. Create a new quiz in Canvas.
  2. Select the New Quizzes quiz engine. If your default quiz engine is Classic Quizzes and you aren't prompted to select a different engine, see New Quizzes in Canvas and Quiz Engine Prompt.
  3. Complete the quiz details.
  4. Click the Build button.
    • Tip: it may be helpful to add instructions for students on how to create a video and how to upload the video for the assignment.
  5. Create a quiz question of type Essay.
  6. Check Rich Content Editor. This provides students with the Rich Text Editor on the submissions page.
  7. Complete the other details and add additional questions as needed.
  8. Save & Publish the quiz.

Note: students will not be able to use the Canvas Student mobile app to submit the quiz because the Rich Text Editor in the mobile app does not include the MiVideo button. However, students can use a web browser on their mobile device.

How to Grade the Quiz

The MiVideo player will load in Speedgrader and can be graded as any other quiz question.

How Students Submit the Quiz

  1. Go to the quiz and click the Begin button.
  2. To embed media for the essay question, select the MiVideo icon in the second row of toolbar buttons in the Text Editor.
  3. If the video is located in My Media, click the Embed button next to the video.
  4. Otherwise, click Add New and select to upload a new video via Media Upload or use Express Screen Capture to record a short (15 minutes max) video within the browser.
  5. Complete any other quiz questions and click the Submit button for the quiz.
