Environment
U-M Slack
Issue
I created a custom app for my workspace. How do I install it?
Resolution
ITS does not provide support for creating custom apps for U-M Slack. The instructions below apply only to installation. Please refer to the Slack Help Center article for more information on installing the Slack apps.
Note: Apps (third-party or custom) cannot be installed in the Maize & Blue workspace.
If you are not the Workspace Admin of your workspace:
- Navigate to Your Apps on the Slack API page.
- Select the app you want to install.
- Click Collaborators from the left-side navigation.
- Enter and select the uniqname of the Workspace Admin for the workspace in which you plan to install the app in the Add a member... field.
If you are the Workspace Admin of your workspace:
- Navigate to Your Apps on the Slack API page.
- Select the app you want to install.
- Click Install App from the left-side navigation.
- Click the Request to Install button.
- You will receive a notification from Slackbot in Slack with the following text:
Your request to install [APP NAME] on [WORKSPACE NAME] has been sent for review.
Your request to install [APP NAME] has been approved. You can now install it from the Slack Marketplace.
- Click the Go to Slack Marketplace button in the message. This will open a new browser window.
- Click Add to Slack to complete the installation process on the app's Marketplace page.
Note: These instructions are for the installation of the custom Slack app. If an installed custom Slack app requires authentication or configuration of a third-party or other service, the Slack Workspace Admin needs to complete that or work with the admins of that service to complete the configuration. ITS cannot assist with this process.
