Issue
Clearing potentially corrupted cache, cookies, or other temporary internet files from the Google Chrome browser
Resolution
- On your computer, open Chrome
- Note: If you already have multiple Chrome windows or tabs open, close all but one
- At the top right, click the three vertical dots
- Click Clear browsing data
- Alternatively, you may navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data
- At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time
- Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes
- Click Clear data
- NOTE: It can take a few minutes to clear the cache depending on how long it has been accumulating.
- Quit Chrome
- Restart your computer
Keyboard Shortcut
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to quickly access the "Clear Browsing Data" window
- Choose the Time Range for All Time
- Clear at least Cookies and Other Site Data as well as Cached Images and Files
- You can leave Passwords and Download History
- Click Clear Data
Clear Cookies from A Single Site
To clear the cookies for just one site without clearing out everything else at the same time in Chrome:
- Click the lock to the left of the URL (web address)
- Click Cookies
- Click Remove
- You can keep clicking Remove until all cookies are gone
- Click Done
Additional Information
Depending on the settings you choose to clear after you clear cache and cookies:
- Some settings on sites will be deleted
- For example, if you were signed in, you’ll need to sign in again, so make sure you know your login information
- Sites can load slowly because content needs to load again
- You can lose your browsing history
