Issue
How do I lock/unlock a file in Dropbox?
Resolution
If a file is locked, those who have access to the file will still be able to view, comment on, and share a link to the file. A person with an edit shared link to a locked file won’t be able to edit the file. If they try to, they’ll receive a prompt to contact the person who locked the file. Only the person who locked the file can unlock files.
Important: Only shared files or files within shared folders can be locked.
To lock or unlock a file in Dropbox:
- Open the folder where the file is stored (e.g., your named folder (Jane Doe) or Team Folder).
- Hover over the file name and click the three-dots icon (...) to the right.
- Hover over Activity and select Lock editing or Unlock editing.
