U-M Slack
Issue
I want to edit who is allowed to post in a Slack channel. How do I do that?
Resolution
Workspace Admins and Channel Managers can adjust the posting permissions for channels and the channel's canvas. The methods depend on your role and whether the channel is public or private.
Workspace settings
Note: This method is only available for Workspace Admins adjusting public channels.
- Click University of Michigan at the top of the left channel sidebar.
- Hover over Tools & settings in the drop-down menu and select Workspace settings.
- If you do not find the Workspace settings option, then you're not a Workspace Admin in any U-M Slack workspace.
- Select the relevant workspace from the drop-down and click Open. The "Settings & Permissions" page will open in a new browser window.
- If you do not find the workspace you are looking for in the drop-down menu, you are not a Workspace Admin in that workspace.
- Select Manage channels from the left navigation under Administration.
- Click the three dots next to the channel name and select Edit posting permissions.
- Adjust the settings as desired and click Save.
Channel settings
Note: The Workspace Admin or Channel Manager must be a
member of the channel (public or private). If a Workspace Admin does not see the settings, they should be made a
Channel Manager and try again.
- Navigate to the channel for which you want to adjust posting permissions.
- Click the channel name at the top of the channel page. A pop-up window will open.
- Select Settings.
- If you are eligible to adjust the setting, there will be a Posting permissions section. Click Edit.
- Adjust the settings as desired and click Save Changes.
