Issue

Can I use Google Messages with my U-M Google account?

Resolution

U-M Google accounts do not have access to Google Messages. Google Messages is not a Core Service offered as part of our U-M Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals agreement.

Workarounds:

  • Use Google Chat to message individuals instead.
  • Use a non-UMICH email address (e.g., gmail.com) to access Google Messages if desired. However, it should never be used with sensitive university data of any kind.
