Environment
Google Wallet and Google Pay are not enabled in U-M Google (under direction of University executive and legal leadership) which can affect or make the following unavailable:
- Google Wallet
- Google Play Store
- YouTube Premium
- NFL Sunday Ticket
- Google Fi
- Google Chromebook
- Google Ads
- All other Google applications dealing with monetary transactions
Issue
Google applications that deal with monetary transactions return an error message, such as "paid subscriptions are disabled". Additionally, Google Chromebooks are unable to be used with Google Play Store and will not be able to install applications.
Resolution
Google Apps that deal with monetary transactions have, as a policy, not been enabled for the U-M domain
- Google Wallet is not enabled
- U-M Google (umich.edu) addresses cannot be used to purchase from the Google Play store
- Use non-UMICH addresses (gmail.com, etc.) for monetary transactions with Google
Additional Information
We continue to review the Terms of Service for these apps and may enable them with approval from appropriate University officials. Any changes to the status of Google Apps will be posted to its.umich.edu/communication/collaboration/google.
