Microsoft AI and Copilot Availability at U-M

Environment

Microsoft 365, Copilot, and ITS-managed Microsoft 365 accounts

Issue

  • Microsoft Copilot is a new artificial intelligence service created by Microsoft. Can I use it with my U-M Microsoft 365 account (ITS-managed)?
  • Can I use other Microsoft AI features with my U-M Microsoft 365 account?

Resolution

  • U-M Microsoft 365 accounts (in the ITS-managed instance) currently have access to the no-cost Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat app at portal.office.com or m365.cloud.microsoft/chat.
    • After logging in at portal.office.com, click the M365 Copilot icon in the top left corner to open a new chat.
    • Alternatively, you can go to m365.cloud.microsoft/chat, log in, and a new chat will automatically open.
  • They do not have access to:
    • The paid version of Microsoft 365 Copilot embedded in the Microsoft 365 apps (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams).
    • The consumer version of the Microsoft Copilot Chat app at copilot.microsoft.com.
      • If you attempt to log in with your ITS-managed M365 account from that page, it will route you to the Copilot Chat app in your M365 account.
    • Copilot Vision in the Edge browser.
