Create a Non-UMICH/Personal Email Account

Non-UM (personal) email account

Issue

Many circumstances require U-M affiliates to also have a non-UMICH email address, such as:

• U-M is prompting me for a non-UM (personal) email account, for account recovery purposes, but I don't have one yet
• I am leaving U-M and need to transition to a non-UM (personal) account, but I don't have one yet
• I am trying to sign up for services with a company (e.g. Apple) that will not accept my umich.edu email address

Resolution

Create a personal account with the provider of your choice. There are many different email service providers, and U-M does not endorse any particular providers. Popular services include:

Apple iCloud Mail

• Sign in with your Apple Account

Google Gmail

• Follow the instructions published by Google: Create a Gmail Account

Microsoft Outlook

• Create a Microsoft Outlook account

Yahoo Mail

• Create a Yahoo account
