Annoto is an add-on to MiVideo in Canvas that allows students to collaborate within the video or audio player.

Resolution
Student engagement is more than just number of plays, Annoto analytics also measure content creation and interactions students have with the video.

- Annoto analytics are already enabled at the course level for all MiVideo videos in the course
Navigate to the Annoto Dashboard in the course
- From the Media Gallery
- Media Gallery > Channel Actions in the upper right > Annoto Dashboard.
- From the left course navigation
- Settings > Navigation > enable Annoto Dashboard. Note: this only has to be done once to have the navigation link appear in the course.
- Click the Annoto Dashboard link in the left course navigation.
Course Analytics
Select the Insights tab on the top
Users Participation radial bar
- Active Users = number of active participants in the course.
- Engaged Users (blue bar) = measures tool usage by all students. This is the percentage of users who engaged with the videos. Some engagement activities include writing a note or a comment, reading a reply, or liking a comment.
- Collaborated Users (green bar) = the percentage of users who actively collaborated in the comment space.
- Noted Users (orange bar) = the percentage of users that wrote at least one personal note.
Video consumption data on the right
- Active Videos = number of active videos in the course.
- Average Completion Rate = shows how much of the videos were watched on average.
Activity metrics along the bottom
- Views = the total number of times videos were viewed.
- Engagement = the total consumption and content created (writing notes, comments, replying to comments, reading comments and liking comments).
- Collaboration = the total comments and replies written.
- Interactions = the number of quiz questions answered.
- Notes = the total number of personal notes written.

Course Insights
Video Analytics
Select the Insights tab > Users Activity tab
Viewing Activity Columns
- Total Completion = the aggregated video completion for all view sessions (video coverage). How much of the video did the student finish watching over time?
- Avg. Completion Rate = the sum of percent watched in each view session divided by number of views. This metric provides the student's dropout rate for each video. How much of the video did the student watch each time they viewed it?
- Watch Time(%) = the aggregated number of seconds the student has watched in all view sessions. The metric is shown in percentage.
- Views = the number of times the student viewed the video.
Activity Metrics Per Student Columns
The last couple columns show Annoto’s activity metrics per student. The table can be sorted by each column to find the most active students for the activity type.
Remember analytics are already enabled in your course so you can find viewing activity even if you don’t use any other Annoto features in the course. Activity metrics will only be available when those Annoto features are enabled.
- Engagement = the total consumption and content created (writing notes, comments, replying to comments, reading comments and liking comments).
- Collaboration = the total comments and replies written.
- Replies = the total number of replies written.
- Notes = the total number of personal notes written.

Video Insights
Student Analytics
Select the Insights tab > Users Activity tab > click a specific student
Completion Funnel
The Completion Funnel reveals the student’s total course activity.
- Views = the number of times the user viewed videos in this course.
- Watched Time = the total number of seconds the user has watched in the course (for all course videos).
- Total Videos = the number of videos in this course.
- Watched Videos = the number of videos viewed by the user.
- Total Completion = the sum of total completion of watched videos divided by the number of videos in the course. How much of the course videos the user finished watching?
Video Consumption
Video Consumption provides insights into consumption of the videos that were watched by the student.
The ideal viewing experience would be an equilateral triangle with all edges being the same length and as close to 100%. If one edge is significantly longer you may want to pay attention to the user.

Activity Metrics along the bottom
Activity metrics along the bottom indicating active learning. The student not only watch the video, but actually had a meaningful interaction with it. These metrics provide the instructor insights that can be used for grading, a general idea of the student’s progress in the course, and identity at-risk learners.
- Views = the number of times videos were viewed in this course by the user.
- Engagement = the total consumption and content created by the user (writing notes, comments, replying to comments, reading comments and liking comments) for all course videos.
- Collaboration = the total comments and replies written by the user for all course videos.
- Notes = the total number of personal notes written by the user for all course videos.
