Installing UMBS public printers on Windows 10

Objective

Install one of the 5 public printers available at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS).

Environment

Windows 10

Procedure

1. Click on the Start button and start typing "printers." Click on Printers & Scanners when it pops up.
2. Click Add a printer or scanner at the top of the Window, then click on The printer that I want isn't listed.
3. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and click Next.
4. Leave Device type set to Autodetect and paste in one of the following printer addresses under Hostname or IP address:
   • LaRue black & white printer
     umbs-larue-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
   • LaRue color printer
     umbs-larue-pr2.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
   • Lakeside Computer Center black & white printer
     umbs-llcc-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
   • Lakeside Computer Center color printer
     umbs-llcc-pr2.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
   • Library black & white printer
     umbs-library-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
5. Make sure Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use is checked and click Next.
6. Windows may automatically detect the printer, find the driver for the printer, and install it.
   • If Windows cannot detect the printer, you will need to seek additional IT assistance.
   • If Windows cannot install the driver, you may be able to use the HP Universal Print Driver, if it is already installed on your system.
   • If this isn't present, you will need to download the appropriate driver from the printer's manufacturer's website and install it first.

7. Give the printer a name, click Next, and make sure Do not share this printer is selected. Click Next.
8. Click print a test page to test the printer if you'd like, then click Finish.
