Objective
Install one of the 5 public printers available at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS).
Environment
Windows 10
Procedure
- Click on the Start button and start typing "printers." Click on Printers & Scanners when it pops up.
- Click Add a printer or scanner at the top of the Window, then click on The printer that I want isn't listed.
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and click Next.
- Leave Device type set to Autodetect and paste in one of the following printer addresses under Hostname or IP address:
- LaRue black & white printer
umbs-larue-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
- LaRue color printer
umbs-larue-pr2.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
- Lakeside Computer Center black & white printer
umbs-llcc-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
- Lakeside Computer Center color printer
umbs-llcc-pr2.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
- Library black & white printer
umbs-library-pr1.umbs.lsa.umich.edu
- Make sure Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use is checked and click Next.
- Windows may automatically detect the printer, find the driver for the printer, and install it.
- If Windows cannot detect the printer, you will need to seek additional IT assistance.
- If Windows cannot install the driver, you may be able to use the HP Universal Print Driver, if it is already installed on your system.
- If this isn't present, you will need to download the appropriate driver from the printer's manufacturer's website and install it first.
- Give the printer a name, click Next, and make sure Do not share this printer is selected. Click Next.
- Click print a test page to test the printer if you'd like, then click Finish.
