Installing MPrint printers (Windows and macOS)

Directions on how to install a printer through mprint.umich.edu on a Windows or macOS machine.

Objective

Installing a MPrint printer through the website for a Windows or macOS machine.

Environment

  • Windows 7 and 10
  • macOS
  • MPrint

Procedure

The procedure is the same regardless of whether you're on a Windows or macOS machine:

 Note
If you have a "Block M" menu with the MPrint Installer (standard for LSA-managed systems), it is better to use that instead of going directly to the web site. You can either click on "Check out MPrint Maps" and follow from step 4 below Or start typing a building name in the large search box and scroll to the printer you want to install.  Tip: Do not hit enter when typing in the search box, it will select the first printer it finds.
  1. Open a web browser and go to the MPrint web site.
  2. Click "Set a destination" on the left.
  3. Click "Find a Printer" on the new menu that pops up.
  4. Click "Locate a printer using building maps" under the search bar in that window.
  5. Select the building the printer is in.
  6. Click on the floor of the printer you would like to install.
  7. Click on the printer you want to install.
  8. Click "Install Now."
  9. On the new page, click "Launch Installer."
  10. An installer will download; please run it.
  11. A new window will pop up as the printer installs, this shouldn't require an administrator password.
  12. A status window will pop up and let you know the final status of the install and you should be set.

Additional notes

  • You will need to log in using your uniqname and Kerberos password. All installers are individualized per uniqname account.
  • If the printer you want to install doesn't show up on the map, it means you don't have access to that printer. Please contact the LSA TS IT Service Desk.
  • If you have never installed an MPrint printer, PaperCut will automatically be installed on your system as part of the setup process. PaperCut communicates between the printer and your computer to allow your print jobs to print.
  • You can also add via MPrint through using your system's Helper (Block M) menu. Refer to Introduction to Block M (HelpRequester) on a Mac for more info.
