Installing Printers with the MPrint Discovery Tool (LSA-Managed Windows 10/11)

Accessing the MPrint Discovery Tool

There are two primary ways to access the MPrint Discovery Tool application

Start Menu

  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Locate and click on 'MPrint Discovery Tool'
    • You can search by typing 'MPrint Discovery Tool' into the search bar within the Start Menu and selecting it from the search results.
    • It will also be listed under the full application listing, found by clicking 'All Apps'

'Block M App' (WLMS Notify)

  1. Click on the 'Block M App' (WLMS Notify)
    • WLMS Notify is accessed from the system tray, found in the Windows taskbar, usually by the system clock
    • The system tray can hide lesser-used icons, so you may need to click the upward-facing arrow to expand these hidden icons to find it
  2. Select 'MPrint Printer Installer'

The MPrint Discovery Tool can also be launched directly via C:\Program Files\MPrint\MPrint_Installer.exe

Installing a Printer

  1. Find the printer you wish to install
    • This is usually easiest by searching by typing in part or all of the device's name in the provided search bar and hitting 'Enter'
    • You can multi-select lines with CTRL+CLICK and SHIFT+CLICK
    • Printers should have their names printed on a sticker affixed to the device
    • If you are uncertain what printers are nearby, you can click 'Find Printers on Map' to open MPrint Maps.
    • The 'Follow Me' queue, which allows for on-demand job release using your MCard on supported printers, will appear as many separate printers, any of which may be selected and installed.
  2. Click 'Install Printers'
  3. A progress bar will show installation status
  4. When done, the selected printer should display a check mark in the 'Installed' column

Installing Printers via the MPrint Website (Unmanaged Devices)

Please note: The procedure is the same regardless of whether you're on a Windows or macOS machine.

  1. Open a web browser and go to the MPrint web site.
  2. Click "Set a destination" on the left.
  3. Click "Find a Printer" on the new menu that pops up.
    1. If the printer you want to install doesn't show up on the map, it means you don't have access to that printer. Please contact the LSA TS IT Service Desk.
  4. Click the link for "Locate a printer using building maps" under the Choose a destination button".
  5. Select the building the printer is in.
  6. Click on the floor of the printer you would like to install.
  7. Click on the printer you want to install.
  8. Click "Install Now."
  9. On the new page, click "Launch Installer."
    1. If you do not have the MPrint installer installed on your computer, the Launch Installer window will not pop up.  Please click the link for "click here" in the second entry of the bulleted list next to the Launch Installer button:  "If you do not have the MPrint Installer application on your machine, please click here to install it, then try the "Launch Installer" button again."  Download and run the MPrint Installer application.
  1. An installer will download; please run it.
    1. If you have never installed an MPrint printer, PaperCut will automatically be installed on your system as part of the setup process. PaperCut communicates between the printer and your computer to allow your print jobs to print.
  2. A new window will pop up as the printer installs, this shouldn't require an administrator password.
  3. A status window will pop up and let you know the final status of the install and you should be set.
