Bulk Delete Multiple Gmail Messages in a Given Date Range

Environment

U-M Google mail, Gmail

Issue

How to delete multiple email messages within a given date range or older than a particular date.

Resolution

  1. In the Search Bar in your Gmail, select a date range by typing in: YYYY/MM/DD, where the date format is year/month/date.
    1. For a specific range, you can use after: and before: which looks like "after:YYYY/MM/DD before:YYYY/MM/DD"
  2. When you are finished, click enter/return on your keyboard.
  3. After Gmail filters the messages for you, click the box directly above all of the emails on the left hand side to select all of the messages showing on the page.
  4. Once all of the messages are selected, click the word Delete at the top of the email list and that will delete the messages.
  5. If you have more than 100 messages, the next page of messages that fit the search criteria will come up and you will need to repeat steps 3) and 4) until you've deleted all of the messages you want to remove.
