Request a Change for your Uniqname

Environment

Uniqname

Issue

Can I change my uniqname?  What is involved and how do I submit a request?

Resolution

ITS will change your uniqname for reasons such as misspellings, legal name changes, marriage, divorce, harassment, or if your originally selected uniqname contains profanity.

Your uniqname is used to access multiple systems at U-M, so changing it can be time-consuming, particularly if you have administrative or elevated access to data or systems. Please consider carefully if you are contemplating a uniqname change and plan ahead to minimize disruption. During processing of a uniqname change, you may lose access to some systems for up to five business days.

  1. Go to Changing Your Uniqname and note what actions you will need to take once your uniqname is changed
  2. Click the Uniqname form link
  3. Fill out all required fields on the form
  4. Click Request

Additional Information

Note: Onboarding employees should wait until they have been validated and their entry has cleared suspense processing before submitting a request. Changing the unqiname during suspense processing phase can cause delays and problems with the onboarding process.
