Override a Student's Final Grade in the Gradebook in Canvas

Issue

How an instructor can override Gradebook's calculated final grade for students.

Resolution

This option will need to enabled at the course level.

1. Gradebook > Settings (gear) icon on the far right
2. Open the Advanced tab
3. Check Allow final grade override
4. Click the Apply Settings button

• Students will view their overridden final grade on the Grades page.
• Override grade values are retained if the option is disabled and re-enabled.
• When disabled, the final grade override column does not download in the Gradebook export.
• If the option is disabled when importing changes to the override final grade column, the column does not appear. Instead the message  "There were no changes detected in the gradebook you uploaded" appears.
