How do I use the Follow Me print queue?
Resolution
Follow Me is a virtual print queue that holds your documents for up to 24 hours, letting you control where and when they get released. You may release your document from any Follow Me printer on campus by swiping your MCard at the printer, logging in to the printer with your uniqname and UMICH (Level-1) password, using the MPrint Mobile App, or going to the website mprint.umich.edu/release.
Install Follow Me
Note Are you using a MiWorkspace, Izzy, or Windows as a Service computer? If so, click the block M in the system tray/menu bar to access university and MiWorkspace-specific resources, then click MPrint Printer Installer and search for Follow Me to install.
You can install and use the Follow Me printer just like any other print queue.
- Go to https://mprint.umich.edu/install
- Click on the Try Follow Me installer in the first box and then click Launch Installer
Use Follow Me Printing
- When you are ready to print, use your browser or application's print function as you normally would
- Select the Follow Me printer (on a Windows computer, may appear as m-follow-me-x on virtualx.miprint.it.umich.edu, where x could be anything from blank to the number 8)
- Click Print
- When prompted again, click Print
- To release your held Follow Me jobs, go to any printer equipped with a card reader and swipe your MCard. Alternatively, you can use the MPrint Mobile App or mprint.umich.edu/release web page to release your Follow Me jobs to any printer that you have access to use.
- If you swiped your Mcard to log in to a printer, please be sure to Log Out of the printer when you're finished.
NOTE: The print job will remain in the Follow Me print queue for 24 hours, after which the user will be notified via email from euc.print@umich.edu with the following message:
"ATTENTION Your document "12345" is held for printing and is due to time out if not released in 60 minutes. Your job was sent and held at "Date/Time"."
Delete/Cancel Follow Me Print Requests
- Go to mprint.umich.edu/release or the MPrint Mobile App
- After logging in, go to the jobs pending and delete them if applicable
Additional Information
If you cannot print after following the instructions, ITS may have to uninstall and reinstall your print driver package. Contact the ITS Service Center.
