  • The software I'm looking for is not visible in the start menu
  • I receive an access error when trying to start the software

Resolution

Software on Campus Computing Sites Computers

Software Not Visible or Launching Software Results in Access Error

Software licenses and contracts limit availability to the types of use noted in the table below. People with corresponding institutional roles are automatically provided access.

Sites Windows Machines

  • Software titles are visible via the Windows Start menu, based on your affiliation
  • If you do not see a specific app, it is likely because the particular application isn't available to your affiliation/role with the University

Sites Mac workstations

  • All applications will display
  • If you receive an access error for a specific app, it is likely because the particular application isn't available to your affiliation/role with the University

If you believe your use is covered, but your role does not automatically provide access:

  1. Find the relevant software title in the U-M Software Directory and review the availability details
  2. Use the link provided in the software directory to request an exception
