Google: Missing "Extensions" Menu in Docs, Sheets, or Slides

Environment

Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Issue

The "Extensions" menu in the toolbar for the document, spreadsheet, or slide deck I'm working on is missing, so I'm unable to access or use any Google add-ons. How do I fix this?

Resolution

The "Extensions" menu is only available when working with native Google Drive file types (e.g., Docs, Sheets, or Slides). It will not appear when working with Microsoft file types (e.g., Word, Excel, or PowerPoint). If the file you're working on is in a Microsoft format, its file extension will appear to the right of the file's title at the top of the page (e.g., .docx, .xlsx, .pptx).

You can easily convert your Microsoft file to its equivalent Google file format by selecting Save as Google [Docs/Sheets/Slides] from the File menu in the top toolbar. This will allow you to use your Google add-ons with the updated file moving forward.
